Description

Rich and cozy hot chocolate infused with star anise, roasted anise seeds, and fresh orange peel. A fragrant twist on the classic warm drink.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 100g (3.5 oz) dark chocolate (65% cocoa content), chopped
  • 500ml (2 1/2 cups) whole milk
  • 5 star anise pods
  • 1 teaspoon roasted anise seeds
  • Peel of 1 orange

Instructions

  1. Add milk, star anise pods, roasted anise seeds, and orange peel to a saucepan. Bring to a boil.
  2. Remove from heat and let infuse for 10 minutes.
  3. Strain the milk and discard the spices and orange peel.
  4. Return the milk to medium heat and bring to a gentle simmer.
  5. Add chopped chocolate and whisk until fully melted. Serve hot.

Notes

  • For a sweeter version, add 1–2 teaspoons of sugar or honey while melting the chocolate.
  • Use fresh orange peel (not pith) to avoid bitterness.
  • Can be made with plant-based milk for a dairy-free option.
